| CSCwu08325 | Nexus N9K-C93108TC-FX3 switch fails to boot after reload or reloads intermittently |
Cisco Nexus N9K-C93108TC-FX3 Switches may fail to boot after unexpectedly reloading or continue to reload multiple times. When affected switches do not reload and complete the bootup process, no output is observed on the console. The device remains unresponsive and does not proceed to the loader prompt, BIOS prompt, or NX-OS boot sequence.
The system cannot be recovered through software remediation, patch installation, or a Cisco ACI or NX-OS software upgrade.
Once this issue occurs, standard troubleshooting methods such as reload attempts, software recovery, or boot variable validation do not restore functionality.
Note: The overall observed failure rate for the switches deployed in the field is considered low.
Cisco Nexus N9K-C93108TC-FX3 Switches may fail to boot up after a reload or may continue to reload unexpectedly. In these situations, no console output is observed. This causes failure of operations such as normal switch startup, access to the loader prompt, BIOS initialization visibility, console-based troubleshooting, and NX-OS boot sequence recovery.
Customers may observe:
If the switch continues to reload unexpectedly, the following reset reason will display during the short time that the switch is up:

Workaround:
There is no software, configuration, or firmware workaround available. Repeated power cycling will not permanently restore the device.
Solution:
Customers with an affected switch exhibiting this failure signature must replace the unit through the standard Return Material Authorization (RMA) process once verified by the Cisco Technical Assistance Center (TAC). Open a service request with Cisco Support Case Manager (SCM) referencing this Field Notice and defect tracking information.
Note: Software upgrades/downgrades, BIOS re-flashing, or Solid State Drive (SSD) replacements do not resolve this hardware failure.
Defective material should be returned within 10 days of receipt of replacement material.
To identify affected products, use the Serial Number Validator.
For PID validation, the affected PID is N9K-C93108TC-FX3.
Before proceeding with the RMA, confirm the following:
Once confirmed, proceed with hardware replacement.
No software remediation is available.
Support Case Manager (SCM) must be used for ordering replacement parts for this Field Notice. To open SCM in a new tab, click the following link:
https://mycase.cloudapps.cisco.com/fieldnotice?fn=FN74406
SCM will validate eligibility and ensure that a request for a particular serial number has not already been submitted. If there is already a request, SCM will indicate that an RMA has already been submitted and NOT eligible for replacement.
Provide the following information:
Order entry supports up to 50 serial numbers per request. For more than 50, submit additional requests.
For questions about order status, see the Field Notice Affected Hardware Replacement FAQ.
